Mary-Kate Spring Lee and Jim Hancock present A Minstrel Meets a Harper!
We met at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire many years ago, and have been performing sets together there every chance we get. We love playing our harp and guitar together, and the way our voices blend is truly joyful for us.
This is a thirty minute long EP with eight of our favorite songs, from ancient instrumental melodies to songs in both English and Gaelic.
We both cherish the storytelling power of music, and the spontaneity and fun of playing live music together and with our friends.
We hope you will enjoy this offering of tunes and songs from our repertoire.

about
The earliest known versions of this song can be dated to the end of the 18th century, but our version has a new twist--an acerbic and saucy final verse written by fiddler and vocalist (and dear friend) Kristine Allen!
lyrics
Come me own one
Come me fair one
Come now unto me
Could you fancy a poor sailor lad
Who has just come from the sea?
You are ragged love
And you're dirty love
And your clothes smell much of tar
So be gone now you saucy sailor lad
So be gone you jack tar
If I am ragged love
And I'm dirty love
And me clothes smell much of tar
I have silver in my pocket love
And gold in great store
And then when she
Heard him say so
On bended knee she fell
I will marry my dear Henry
For I love a sailor lad so well
Do you think that I
I am foolish love
Do you think that I am daft
For to wed with a poor country girl
Where no fortune's to be had
I will cross the briny ocean
I will whistle and sing
And since you have refused the offer Love
Some other girl will wear the ring
She was sad for just a moment
Then she turned to him and said
There's no finer ring in all the world but I'll
Find a much better bed
For I am frolicsome
And I am easy
Good tempered and free
And I don't give a single penny boys
What the world thinks of me
